John Cooper Works (JCW) are the racing-inspired high-performance MINIs in our lineup, each designed to offer sporty thrills and a more aggressive driving experience. Think the body of a MINI, the heart of a racer. Named after the legendary Formula 1 designer, John Cooper, these unique models are inspired by our famous racing heritage, including our victories at Monte Carlo, Daytona, and Watkins Glen.
The JCW origins date back to 1946 when Charles Cooper and his son John founded the Cooper Car Company and built racing cars from Charles' small garage. Since then, these simple beginnings have influenced motorsport as we know it today – so they are a pretty big deal.
There are currently two electric JCW models (all-electric Cooper, all-electric Aceman), each fitted with a high-voltage lithium-ION battery that is optimally positioned along the length of the vehicle floor, producing 190 kW / 350 Nm of electric pulling power. Our three petrol variants (the JCW Cooper 3-door, JCW Cooper Convertible and John Cooper Works Countryman All4) deliver performance via JCW TwinPower Turbo combustion engines. The JCW Cooper 3-door and Convertible engines clock in with 231 hp / 380 Nm, while the JCW Countryman All4 engine ramps things up with 300 hp / 400 Nm.
